Friday Favorites: Social Events and Saving Puffer Fish

Guys! Life is so good lately! 🙂 I mean, how could it not be when you’re in South Florida, surrounded by the best horses and riders in the world and working with great people!? (Okay, I guess it could not be if you don’t like nice weather, horses, or amazing, hardworking people, but that’s a personal problem 😉 …)

Here are a few of my favorite things and happenings that have helped to make life as good as it is lately! (Forewarning…it’s a longgg one)!!:

1. Social events (in the same dress…) – Along with the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF), the Wellington and Palm Beach social season is in full swing! While I have light years (and a lot of money) to go to achieve Palm Beach socialite status, I occasionally get to attend a few events. So far this season, that’s included the JustWorld International gala and a private handbag launch event hosted by Ariana Rockefeller in conjunction with the Longines Masters.

Because I am not a Palm Beach socialite, and because I’m obsessed with this Calvin Klein dress and how simple it is to throw on in a hurry…I wore the same one to both events. (#SocialFauxPas) (It was also under $100 when I got it, and it is currently even more discounted at Macys!)

Form-flattering and slimming for when you just can’t stop with the red velvet Oreos…
The beautiful setting for the JustWorld International gala!

(As an aside, I can’t wait for the inaugural Longines Masters of New York!! If you’re in the North East, mark your calendars now for April 26-29!)

2. ‘Yappy Hours’ (and a happy, healthy Pumba!) – I realized that I never shared this on my blog – only on my personal social media – but my fat (yes, I’m finally admitting that she’s fat) little Pitbull, Pumba, had her left eye surgically removed on December 21! Long story short, she had been blind in the eye for a bit, and it was starting to get painful for her, so ifso factso, I and the vet decided it was best to have it taken out. I’m super happy to report that she is back to living her best life, and seems even happier without the eye!

The other Monday, Pumba got together with some of her fellow Penn Stater-owned dog friends at O’Shea’s Irish Pub in West Palm Beach because they have a ‘Yappy Hour’ every Monday night!! 😀 Anywhere that lets dogs come hang out is my favorite! They open up their courtyard to let dogs off leash on Monday night; they give out free dog treats, and your second drink is free if you bring a dog! 🙂

The dogs were clearly holding perfectly still (Pumba in particular), as is evident by this high-quality, totally non-blurry photo of them…

(Also worth mentioning: my gold sweater in the above photo is the most comfortable, and it’s another of my recent favorite sweater finds. It’s also under $50!)

3. Boyfriend visits!! – Part of what definitely helps make my life great as of late, is having a boyfriend who is super willing to make regular visits and doesn’t mind if that entails hanging out at WEF or similar horse-related activities!

Just hangin’ out, watchin’ some horses

While I’m down here in Florida, my time is largely dedicated to being focused on my job, but since Justin was here, I/we squeezed in some other outings/excursions too! Including a quick beach visit:

We found the cutest little puffer fish still breathing and washed up on the beach, and he was all puffed up so couldn’t swim! The waves kept pushing him back up into the sand…so the only natural thing to do of course is to try to save him! We were hopeful that if he deflated himself, he could fight against the waves and get back out to sea…so we put him in a bag of water to sit and deflate…

…and then we Googled that it could take 5-6 hours for him to do so!! Ain’t nobody got time for that!! So we did what seemed best…and Justin threw him as hard as he could back out into the ocean haha. We did not see him come back up to the sand with the waves, so we’re counting it as a life saved! (Hopefully…)

I don’t like fish…but there was something about this incredibly adorable puffer fish…I wanted to just take him home and buy a salt water aquarium…

4. Cheat days – While Justin was here, I also treated it a bit like a vacation weekend, and we definitely indulged in vacation-esque foods!!

On Sunday night, the very last night of the South Florida Fair, we went to check it out! I’ve been done here for six winters now (holy cow, how did that go so fast!?), and I’ve never gone to the fair so wanted to see what it was all about…I’d say I do not need to go back…but could be persuaded for the elephant ear and red velvet funnel cake that we got there!!

The following morning, we grabbed breakfast at KeKe’s in Wellington, and I was all ready to order an egg white omelette or something to offset Sunday night’s sweets…until I saw that they had apple cinnamon french toast, and it was game over! SO good. I want more just writing about it, and I totally recommend KeKe’s as a breakfast spot!

5. Working at WEF and with great clients! – As mentioned above, when Justin’s not here, work is what I choose to center my time and energies on! And this season in particular, I just feel super fortunate to get to work with some really great clients (and a great company as always too)! I’ll be posting more about some of them in the future I’m sure, but a few worth checking out this week: BarnManager, True North Stables, and MediVet Equine!

Also worth checking out? Fine Art Horses, who snapped these photos of me making the worst faces but loving life:

Kudos if you made it through this whole post!! 🙂
